Last night I had the pleasure of meeting Danielle, half of the A.D. Rhine duo, authors of Horses of Fire at One More Page Books. The second half of their duology Dauthers of Bronze comes out on this Tuesday, November 26th. I'm just about finished with Horses of Fire and this feminst retelling of the Illiad is unputdownable. Its told from the perspective of the vanquished rather than from the persepective of the victors. Additionally, the story is told from the perspective of the women of the myth.

Horses of Fire has three point-of-views; Andromache, wife of Hector, Helene of Sparta and now Troy, and Rhea, a young woman who finds refuge in the home of the Trojans. In Daughters of Bronze the addition of Cassandra, the prophetic princess is included as well. This book shows how there is more than one kind of power, and how influence behind the scenes can be just as impactful as the well known, major players of myth. You can't help but love and root for these women, and the people they care about in turn.

The Q&A at the launch party was moderated by author Lisa Maxwell and she asked the best questions, including what the authors' inspiration for this story was as well as their writing method. While co-authored, reading these books feel like one cohesive voice, and thats attributed to their history of being friends so long after meeting as teens on a military base. This is something I relate to, I met my husband in Japan on a military base at 14, and we got a moment to chat with Danielle about that, which was so nice.

If you're a fan of historical ficiton, mythology, or fantasy in general I think Horses of Fire and Daughters of Bronze are worth checking out. I'll keep you all posted on my thoughts as I jump into book two, but really looking forward to the conclusion of this retelling of the Illiad.
